It was a pleasure talking about how to grow in our craft in serving at our local churches! Here are some more resources that can help you process what we talked about and practice. As I mentioned, eel free to reach out with any questions via email.
There is a lot on the blog that can help. Specifically:
Chord “families,” in other words, the keys and chord shapes we use ALL the time. If you’re a beginner, start here. Learn more chords. What catches your ear? As a more advanced player, don’t stop exploring. There is always more to discover, ways to apply it, etc.
Get to know that CAGED idea, simply and practically as it can apply to what you do every time you pick up the guitar and play different songs.
Loooooads more on this for scales and things that I am working on posting sooner than later. If you want some of that now, email me!
We talked about playing up higher on the neck, especially as an electric player. I have to update some posts, hut here are some resources for that (if you want more, more quickly, email me!)
Remember that 3 point approach scale/chord/everything idea I talked about? Don’t sleep on that, changed the way I look at the guitar neck ;)
Don’t forget, at ANY level of playing, beginner or advanced and anywhere inbetween, don’t forget to playing musically, dynamically, think in terms of parts, arranging the song and maybe the best thing I could add is nothing for a part (unless you’re supposed to be playing something!). This sounds basic but attention here will make your playing immediately more beautiful, and context-serving.
Also, you’re probably pressing harder than you need to ;)
Check back as I’ll be adding more, feel free to reach out, and thank you for serving!
